SUCCESS!

Tonight Jaycee had her first bites of rice cereal! Yeah! With a little coaching and encouraging squeals from her mommy, Jaycee was able to swallow all the yummy rice cereal that was mixed with apple juice. A few days ago Jaycee learned that she was able to suck her bottom lip inwards and suck on it while she was hanging out. With that new skill mastered, she is now able to take a spoonful of food and swallow it whole, with only minimal squirtage out the mouth.

In addition to eating from a spoon successfully, Jaycee is enjoying nightly walks and visits with her horses. She regularly squeals with excitement and thinks that sneezing (from a horse) is hilarious. Too cute!

The picture with the food running down her face is classic. That is her moment of disgust caught by a picture from the first night she attempted her rice cereal. You can just imagine the thoughts going through her head. . .

Jaycee also thinks that she needs to drink from any sized bottle just like her daddy drinks. Whether her daddy is drinking water from a smaller bottle or juice from a larger bottle, Jaycee now tries to grab the bottle and insert it into her own mouth. She definitely knows what her mouth is for. Her coordination is amazing. Just a few weeks ago she was flailing her arms around with no real destination. Now, she grabs, quite deliberately, and manages to obtain whatever object she was going for. We now have to have all non-kid-friendly items out of her reach, especially if its located on a table top.

Jaycee's clothing is also starting to fit tightly. Guess it's time to leave the 3 month stuff behind and enter into the big girl land of 6 month clothes. . . What next? Driving???

Too Exciting!

Jaycee has been doing so many new and exciting things, where do we begin? She officially rolls over from her back to her stomach. This is a wonderful thing for Jaycee and a not so wonderful thing for her parents. We can no longer lay her down for a nap and expect her to stay put. She rolls from back to belly in a flash and prefers to sleep on her belly, which of course is the only no-no we have gotten as parents. It figures that she would be a rebel.

And today, the very first long and hot day of summer, Jaycee attempted to eat rice cereal from a spoon. That was pure entertainment as you can see if you check out the video link. From the look on her face, she wants to eat but isn't too sure about the texture. That she gets from her daddy. Hopefully she'll get the hang of it soon because we are super excited to have her eat "real" food. She already enjoys her daily doses of apple juice. Within the next week or so we will be trying out pear juice and white grape juice.

The video links will be up until the end of the month! Enjoy!

And another new development from Jaycee this week: She loves to press the keys on the computer. Anyone that knows us will not find this love of computers as a surprise, she is exactly like her momma and poppa in that sense! By the age of five, she will probably be able to type 100 words per minute. That's our girl, preparing for college early.

Happy Father's Day Daddy!!!

To our dearest Daddy on his very first Father's Day,

We are so very lucky to have you! You are a wonderful dad and you treat your ladies with such caring love and devotion each and every day. We couldn't imagine any other dad making bottles, changing diapers, and putting away little clothes. You are the best at what you do! And even though you have only been a real Poppa for 4 1/2 months, you have proven to be a fast learner. We knew you were going to be good, but no one expected you to be this wonderful. You truly are a natural father. Your words are so kind, your smiles so sweet, and your caring hands have never been softer. Thank you for all that you do for us! We love you so much and we hope you enjoy your Daddy's Day! You deserve it more than anyone else we know! Keep up the great work Dad!

Love your girls,

Jess & Jaycee

New Jaycee developments. . .

Jaycee has begun to laugh now along with her constant talking. She thinks the animals are funny, her daddy blowing raspberries on her belly, and the occasional surprise, like mommy getting home from work during the week. She has also started to "yell" at the animals when she's trying to get their attention. She has a very specific talk that she does louder than most other words, sort of like a "Uuggghhh" sound. When she does that sound, she usually means business.

She has also noticed that the massive cat, Toby, is very different from the three dogs. She smiles at him and even pet him the other day. She thinks he is pretty neat.

We are hoping to go to Sea World over the summer to see what she thinks of the water creatures. We think Sea World will be a big hit with Jaycee.

Jaycee's eating habits have also changed a bit over the last few weeks. She now eats four ounces every three hours or so, as opposed to her two ounces from weeks past. Her belly is finally letting her hold more food, which makes her very happy.

Other interesting new developments this past week:

Jaycee found her feet (she regularly looks like a monkey grabbing at her toes everyday now)

Jaycee always has something in her mouth (this could range from her hands, sometimes both, a blanket, her outfit, or anything else she can move toward her mouth)

Jaycee does not like to sleep in her co-sleeper all night long. She wakes up in the middle of the night and prefers to sleep in between her mommy and daddy (a bad habit, we know, we plan on changing this over the summer by introducing her big girl crib)

Once again, we can't believe how incredibly old our little baby is. She will be 16 weeks on Tuesday (we're not sure if we're supposed to count by months or weeks, so for now we'll just count by weeks). What happened to our little one???
